  5. Golden Ticket: Mimikatz can create a “Golden Ticket,” which is a forged Kerberos ticket granting ticket (TGT) that can provide an attacker with unrestricted access to the entire domain.
  6. Silver Ticket: This feature allows the creation of service tickets (TGS) for specific services, enabling attackers to target particular applications or services within a network.
  7. DCShadow: A relatively new feature that allows attackers to inject malicious changes into the Active Directory using replication mechanisms. This can be used to stealthily modify user privileges or other directory attributes.

How Mimikatz Works:

Mimikatz operates by interacting with Windows internal processes and memory structures to retrieve sensitive information. It requires administrative privileges to perform most of its operations, as it needs to access protected areas of memory. Once it has the necessary access, Mimikatz can perform a variety of tasks, from dumping passwords to creating forged tickets.

Here’s a basic example of how to use Mimikatz to dump plaintext passwords:

  1. Download and extract Mimikatz.
  2. Open a command prompt with administrative privileges.
  3. Navigate to the Mimikatz directory.
  4. Launch Mimikatz by typing mimikatz.exe.
  5. Use the command privilege::debug to ensure Mimikatz has the necessary privileges.
  6. Run sekurlsa::logonpasswords to dump the credentials.

  5. Network Segmentation: Segment the network to limit lateral movement opportunities for attackers.
